About The Village

Crossroads to the Future
Middleville is the “Crossroads to the Future”. Those citizens serving on the Village Council, the Planning Commission, and Downtown Development Authority share a common vision and set of values. This vision and the values include:
- Making Downtown once again healthy – a place to shop, work, play and live, as shown by the Market on Main and Riverbank Music Series.
- Elimination of blight and physical decline; have you noticed the flowers and landscape changes in the Downtown area?
- Enhancing and beautifying public spaces in Downtown, evidenced by Stagecoach and Sesquicentennial Parks.
- Assuring reasonable parking service to Downtown business has been demonstrated by the St. James Circle parking area behind the Village Hall.
- Creating outdoor gathering places for regular and special activities, enjoyed by Middleville residents and visitors during many events in the summer and winter
- Implementing vintage lighting and signage throughout Downtown, the Gazebo and park.
If you want to be part of this exciting future planning for the Village of Middleville, there are opportunities to serve on Commissions and Boards.

About The Township
We believe that good government has its roots in the people, so our goal is to help and serve.
Our township is located in the northwest corner of Barry County, 20 miles south of Grand Rapids, Michigan, in a town once called Thornapple, but now called Middleville. Thornapple Township is 36 square miles and we were given our name from the Thornapple River, which is a tributary of the Grand River and flows perfectly south to north through the heart of our township. Although our township is rural in nature, both our township and the Village of Middleville are home to more than 8,000 people. The “Scales Prairie” area west of the village features some of the most productive farmland in the county. In addition, Barry County’s largest employer, Bradford White Corporation, is located in Middleville.
Thornapple Township is governed by a seven-member Board that meets the second Monday of each month.
